OUR STORY

In early 2023, members of our leadership team came together to share their experiences of being first-generation graduates. When sharing our academic and professional journeys, the word “mentorship” was a key element in getting us to where we are today. Within our stories, each stage of college, graduate school, and careers were often met with uncertainty and doubt but with the support of mentors, we were able to realize that achieving one’s goals is possible.

Today, students face that and more. The pandemic has brought more barriers to pursuing higher education than ever before, especially for students of color. For some, the possibility of going to college appears as an impossible attainment. Mentorship at the end of your high school experience can help to make those aspirations a reality.

Being mentored by someone who is also the FIRST and who may understand what you are going through can make a difference in bridging the gap for student transformation. Whether you are the FIRST in your family to pursue higher education, have an interest in a new career field, or experience life in a new area, then FIRST is the perfect place to be.
